# Plans

> Hobby and Pro, what each includes, Enterprise on request, and what happens when a workspace changes plan.

A workspace is on one of two plans with Toolaby. Hobby has no monthly price and takes a fee on each sale. Pro has a monthly price per workspace and takes no fee. Companies and larger tools can ask for Enterprise.

A tool's own *Free plan*, what its buyers get before paying, is another thing: see [Access and features](https://toolaby.app/docs/free-plan.md).

This page covers what each plan includes, passes, what happens on an upgrade and a downgrade, and how Test differs.

## Workspaces and plans

A workspace is one business: its tools, its Stripe account, its domain and mail, its buyers and its members. The plan belongs to the workspace, never to your account. Your account signs you in, and holds no plan.

### Does Pro cover all my workspaces?

No. Pro is for one workspace. Another workspace has its own plan: Hobby until you upgrade it, and billed on its own invoice, which names it. Most developers sell every tool from one workspace, so one Pro covers them all. Make a second workspace for a separate business, with its own Stripe account and brand.

Each workspace shows its plan beside its name in the switcher, and **Your account → Your workspaces** lists them all. The launch code makes a workspace's first three months of Pro free, once per workspace.

On either plan, your own icon (**Configure → Branding**) and terms and privacy links (**Configure → Profile**) replace Toolaby's. **Continue with Google** works the same on both: through Toolaby's client, whose consent screen names Toolaby, until you add your own under **Configure → Sign-in**, where you can also turn it off.

On fees alone, Pro costs less from $5,000 of sales a month, or $4,000 billed yearly. Below that, Pro is for what it adds.

The **Usage** card on the **Tools** page shows devices and members, *Passes (free access you gave)* once you give one, and a fair-use limit once 80% of it is used. **Configure → Plan** shows the same, with the plan and the fee. [Limits](https://toolaby.app/docs/limits.md) lists every one. An owner upgrades from either, monthly or yearly: **Upgrade** shows what Pro includes and what it costs, then Stripe's checkout, which takes a promotion code. Billing is managed in Stripe's portal from **Configure → Plan**: the interval, the card, invoices and cancelling. Pro is billed on Toolaby's own Stripe account, not on yours.

In the dashboard, a Pro feature carries a **Pro** mark: **Domain**, **Your own pages** and **Mail** under **Configure**. On Hobby, each of those pages says what Pro gives there and what it costs, with **Upgrade**, before anything is typed. On Test, where every feature is on, the mark reads *Pro on Live*. **Configure → Plan** sets Hobby beside Pro, row by row.

## Passes

A pass is access that no sale through Toolaby paid for:

These are not passes: sales through Toolaby and the seats under them, trials (a team's aside), and Stripe sales made before the tool joined — each while a charge pays its period. Nor is a subscription moved from another Stripe account, in the period a card paid for there: nothing bills it on your account until that period ends. See [Move subscriptions from another Stripe account](https://toolaby.app/docs/move-subscriptions.md). The tool joined on the day it was created; a bundle, on the day the first of its tools was. A bundle that holds sales imported as made before it joined cannot be given a tool that joined earlier: that would move its day back. Make a new bundle for it. A subscription you imported keeps the customer and the seats it came with.

Each period of a subscription is judged by the invoice that billed it, and by what paid it. Toolaby judges a period again whenever one of its invoices changes.

* **Paid in full by charges through Stripe**: a sale. On Hobby the charges carry Toolaby's fee, as the plan was when the invoice was drafted.
* **Paid from credit**: a sale only when the credit came from the customer's own plan or seat changes on a subscription Toolaby sold, such as a move to a cheaper plan in the portal. The charges behind that credit are judged the same way. Only credit given since the customer's balance last held none is judged. Credit from a subscription you made outside Toolaby pays for nothing.
* **Still being collected**: its first hour, a bank debit clearing, a retry to come. Not a pass. The grace for an invoice to be collected is three days, or a quarter of the period on a shorter one.
* **Past due**: not a pass, and it unlocks nothing.

A team licence or team subscription that is a pass counts each seat handed out, not the team: a subscription that stops being paid for makes its seats passes from then on, and they stop being passes when it pays again.

On Hobby a workspace holds at most 100 passes at once. A grant that has ended or was revoked stops counting.

| A grant through the API | `403` with `plan_limit_error`. Made at the same moment as others, a grant beyond the limit is made and held: its `live` is `false`. See [API](https://toolaby.app/docs/reference/api.md). |
| A CSV row | Left out, with the reason. |
| A 100%-off Checkout        | The purchase is made and *held*.                                                                                                                                    |

A held pass unlocks nothing. The customer's page says *Held: over your plan's limit*, and the buyer's account page says *On hold*. Toolaby holds the newest passes beyond 100 each time a pass is made, and each day, and releases held ones, oldest first, when there is room.

The fee on a running subscription is changed on your Stripe account, soonest renewal first, and on a renewal Stripe has already drafted; Stripe charges it at the subscription's next invoice. Subscriptions imported from before the tool joined carry no fee on any plan. Which subscriptions were imported is recorded by Toolaby at the import; metadata on Stripe does not change it.

A Pro renewal that stays unpaid keeps Pro for 14 days from the invoice. After that Pro ends as above, and **Configure → Plan** offers to pay the invoice in Stripe. Paid, Pro comes back.

Toolaby mails the workspace's owners, with each moment in UTC:

* three days before an unpaid renewal would end Pro;
* when Pro ends;
* two or three days before its features stop;
* three days before a complimentary Pro reaches its end date.

While a renewal is unpaid, or while the 7 days run, a line across the top of the dashboard says so to members who may configure the workspace. Stripe mails a failed card payment, and a card about to expire, to the address Pro is billed to.

On Pro your buyers see your name, not Toolaby's. Two addresses stay Toolaby's until you set up your own: the pages are at `<workspace>.toolaby.app` until your own domain is verified, and mail comes from `no-reply@toolaby.app` until your mail domain is. Your buyer pages link your own terms and privacy notice once you add them under **Configure → Profile**, and none before. **Continue with Google** goes through Toolaby's client until you add your own (**Configure → Sign-in**), so Google's consent screen names Toolaby until then; turn it off there to offer the link alone.

A Checkout is charged the fee of the plan when it was opened. A buyer who opened one on Pro and pays after Pro ends pays no fee.

When the 7 days are over:

* Your own domain sends buyers to your workspace's address under Toolaby, with the page they asked for.
* Your own pages give way to the hosted pages.
* Mail goes out as *Your workspace via Toolaby*.
* Toolaby's name comes back: the line naming it, its icon in the tab, its terms and privacy policy where you have none, and Google sign-in through its client.
* The first 3 members open the workspace, owners first, then by the day they joined. The others are shown why they cannot.

Nothing is deleted. Upgrading again turns each back on.

## Devices

A device counts once in each calendar month it checks in. Each of your extensions in a browser is a device of its own: one browser with two of your tools counts twice. The count is within about 3% and keeps no device's id. A workspace over its plan's devices is told by mail, and **Configure → Plan** marks it. Nothing stops and nothing is charged automatically.

## Enterprise

For companies and larger tools, on request: limits raised for your workspace, team licences past 100 seats, and a person who answers. There is no price list. Write to [hello@toolaby.app](mailto:hello@toolaby.app), or use **Talk to us** under **Configure → Plan**.

## Test

On Test every feature is on and nothing is billed, except mail from your own domain, which is set up on Live. Test payments carry the Hobby plan's 0.5% fee in test money. A workspace on Test holds 100 people, whatever its plan. The plan is chosen on Live. See [Test and Live](https://toolaby.app/docs/test-and-live.md).
