Buyer pages
The sign-in, checkout and account pages a buyer sees, in your brand, on your address.
Buyers meet the Wall on three pages: sign-in, checkout and the account. They are hosted at <workspace>.toolaby.app, or on your own domain, in your brand and the buyer's language. You do not build them.
Brand
Under Configure → Branding: icon, logo, colour mode, brand and accent colours, corner radius, a backdrop per surface, and a headline for the sign-in page. Each page can be previewed as a signed-out buyer sees it before saving, and the extension's popup beside them, state by state. The mail your buyers get — sign-in links, licences, confirmations — wears the same brand: the icon, or your name's initial on your accent when there is none, beside your name, and the accent on its button.
Your own domain
Under Configure → Domain, add a domain such as accounts.example.com and set the two DNS records shown: a CNAME that points the address at the Wall, and a TXT record at _toolaby.accounts.example.com that proves it is yours. Then press Check. Every buyer page then answers there, with your cookie. A claim not proved within seven days lapses, and the address is free again. On Test, the address is attached once the TXT record is there, so you set the TXT record first and the CNAME after the first Check. If another workspace has claimed your address without proving it, the dashboard shows a TXT value of your own: set it, add the address again, and the proof takes it over. Mail domains work the same way.
Removing an address, or deleting the workspace, detaches it at once; delete the records at your DNS host too. Buyer pages and tool keys made from then on use <workspace>.toolaby.app. A tool key made while the address was verified names it, and an installed copy built with that key keeps calling it and reaches nothing, until you rebuild it with a new key (npx -y toolaby@latest upgrade <tool-id>) and ship the update. The Wall cannot tell which copies those are: while a copy of any of your tools has checked in within 30 days, Remove asks you to type the address to confirm.
Mail from your own domain
On Live, under Configure → Mail, add a domain such as mail.example.com and set the five DNS records shown: three DKIM CNAMEs, and an MX and a TXT record on wall.mail.example.com for bounces. Then press Check now. Sign-in links and licence emails then come from no-reply@mail.example.com instead of Your workspace via Toolaby. A Pro feature.
The sender's name is your workspace's name, without the characters that would make it read as an address: @, < and >, and their look-alikes.
A domain is set up on Live only. Test and Live send through one mail account, where a domain can be registered once, and it belongs where your buyers are. A domain already registered elsewhere is refused; if it is yours, write to hello@toolaby.app.
Your own pages
You can serve sign-in, the account page and the after-purchase pages from your own site. Under Configure → Your own pages, list your site's origins (on the same site as your verified domain) and point each page at yours. On your site, toolaby-web.js gives your pages the buyer's account: an account button, content by sign-in state or by what the buyer owns, and checkout. See Your own site.
Sign-in
Sign-in is a one-time link by email. Continue with Google is present from the start through the Wall's own Google client; Google's consent screen names Toolaby. To show your own name, paste a Google client of your own under Configure → Sign-in, with the redirect URI the page shows. The secret is sealed on save and never shown again.
A buyer who bought by email and later signs in with Google at the same address gets the same account. Buyers connect or disconnect Google under Account → Connected accounts.
An address is one account however it is spelt. Gmail ignores dots, so john.smith@gmail.com and johnsmith@gmail.com sign in to the same account, and a purchase made as one is found by the other. A +tag address, such as john+work@gmail.com, is an account of its own.
Checkout
The checkout page shows the tool's plans as the Wall shows its own: a card for each — the Free plan when it holds something, once, monthly, yearly — with its price, what it is in a line, its facts, what it includes and its own button. The plan the link names (?plan=), else the one you mark recommended, is chosen and wears your accent as a ring. On a phone the cards stack, and while the chosen card's button is out of sight a bar at the bottom carries it. Payment runs on Stripe's page, on your account, in the buyer's language. Where Stripe supports it, the buyer sees the amount in their own currency and pays the conversion fee; you settle in yours.
The buyer signs in before a subscription; a lifetime licence can be bought signed out, and attaches to the account that later verifies the address.
Account
| Section | |
|---|---|
| Purchases | One card per tool: each licence, seat, subscription, trial or grant. A team licence's seats are managed under its line; a team subscription is one line, Team subscription · 5 seats · renews …, its seats under it and its count and billing in Stripe's portal. A subscription's line names its plan. Change plan opens the plans under it: the one held, the others with Switch (Stripe's portal, prorated and invoiced at once) or Buy once for a lifetime licence, after which the subscription ends with its paid period. Card, invoices and cancelling are one line at the foot, in Stripe's portal. |
| Payments | Every payment to you, with Stripe's receipt or invoice, and Stripe's customer portal. An account has one Stripe customer on your account; a purchase made signed out makes its own, which the account adopts when it claims the purchase. |
| Devices | The devices the buyer's tools are unlocked on, one row each: signed in, by a licence key, or both. The newest 50 signed in are listed. A signed-in device has Sign out; one unlocked by a key has Remove. Either frees its place on the licence. A device past the plan's device limit is marked, with what signing another out does. One signed out from the extension itself leaves the list at once. |
| Account | The address, connected accounts, the language, and deleting the account. |
Changing the address sends a confirmation to the new one; nothing changes until it is confirmed. Purchases stay with the account.
Deleting the account sends a confirmation link valid for a day. Confirmed, the sign-in, the signed-in extensions, any grants and every subscription with you are ended; subscriptions are cancelled at once. A licence bought with the address stays in your customers as a licence without an account and keeps working by its key.
Languages
English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Greek. A page is in the browser's language when it is one of these, otherwise English; a switcher in the footer sets it for a year. Emails are in the language of the request that caused them; a licence remembers the language it was bought in for every later email about it.
Your tool's name, tagline and description are shown as you wrote them. The dashboard, the docs and the API are in English.
To see a checkout in another currency on Test, pay with an email such as test+location_US@example.com.
